About me

I am Associate Professor at Graz University of Technology, Institute of Geodesy, Research Group Geoinformation. Besides I am Member of the Commission Geographic Information Science of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. I was Visiting Scholar af Department of Geography, University of California, Santa Barbara. Previously, I was Asscociated Faculty at Doctoral College GIScience of University of Salzburg, lecturer at University of Salzburg, Department of Geoinformatics, and lecturer at Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt/Celovec, Department of Geography. Prior to my affiliation at Graz University of Technology i was Senior Researcher in Geographic Information Science at Research Studios Austria - Studio iSPACE a non-profit research organization.

Private

Beside my professional interests I have several hobbies that keep me busy as well. Among them are:

My family: so far 3 kids (Moritz, Sara and Timon) and my wife Susanne who perfectly manages all the family matters besides a great professional career at Microsoft Photogrammetry. I have to thank them very much for their patience and for creating a great relaxing and perfect atmosphere at home. Timon, Sara & Moritz keep me "busy" all the time at home, which is really great and which reminds you of the really important things in life.
Marathons: running is one of my passions - a perfect balance to the hours in front of the PC. Hence, I devote quite some time to running. So far my personal best on the marathon distance (42,195 km) is 3:00 hours [Ljubljana 2014] 2:58:30 [Graz 2015], and on the half marathon distance (21 km) is 1:23 hours [Udine 2010]. Besides I try to compete in some mountain running events - e.g. "Monte Lussari Berglauf", "Lago di Garda Mountain Race" (1700m vertical incline on 9 km distance) - with some quite good rankings.
